The 2014 Color of the Year is Here!

Pantone, the global authority on color (as if you didn't already know), has announced the 2014 Color of the Year.  Radiant Orchid is quite the opposite of last year's Emerald Green, and will be a nice change.  The color is both calming and inspiring - Pantone says:
"Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.  An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm."

I currently cannot think of anything remotely Emerald that I purchased last year, but Pantone's Color of the Year influences the design and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home decor, and industrial design... not to mention in packaging and graphic design.

If you want to get a head start on the trend, go for it!

47. Vanity Fair: September 2011

I have no idea how this has happened... that three Vanity Fair Style Issues just happened to fall in a row.  I promise - it wasn't intentional on my part!

Here's Jennifer Lopez on the cover of VF.  She has definitely come a long way since The Block, Bennifer, and Marc Anthony (twins and drama!).  Although she's had a career that has spanned several decades and currently has a net worth of 300 million +, she doesn't even place in the top 10 of Jennifers searched on Google.  Oh well... she's definitely doing something right.  She's one heck of a businesswoman.

Love these old Tropicana posters.  "Tropicana was the place to be seen, a bit like Rick's Cafe in Casablanca".

The brilliant mind behind Tommy Hilfiger's ads is Laird + Partners.  Their lifestyle and fashion campaigns are absolutely fantastic.  I am kind of obsessed with how much they've been able to elevate the Tommy Hilfiger brand and differentiate it from its competitors.  Cough, cough, Ralph Lauren, cough, Calvin Klein, cough.

Here are several other TH spreads.

Some other pretty iconic campaigns brought to us by Laird + Partners.

More ads from the Cosmopolitan. Can you tell that it's quickly becoming a favorite of mine?
"Just the right amount of wrong".

One of my professors considered Ralph Rucci to be the best American designer. However... 99% of most magazine readers, shoppers, and self-proclaimed "It Girls" have not heard of him.  I love this Out to Lunch that really makes him shine.  Below are some of his designs for Spring 2014.

This is stunning.  Angelina.

Tropicana... oh so fun.   And colorful.

46. Vanity Fair: September 2010

Ah!  Another Style Issue.  2010- the year I graduated from college, the year I moved to New York City, and the year Conan 'left' the Tonight Show.

I wanted to show you the un-cropped photo of the cover of the magazine.  You can tell I lovingly carried it around for quite a while!

I really enjoyed this Chanel campaign.  So simple.  Such juxtaposition.

These Tom Ford ads make me swoon.

Julianne Moore with baby lions?  Can we trade places please?

Chanel party in Malibu.

Alex Prager photography.  MoMA had an exhibition of her work in 2010.  Very Cindy Sherman/Alfred Hitchcock-esque.

That's all the glossies for today, friends.  Have a happy turkey/ham/chicken/tofu day!

xoxo.

45. Vanity Fair: September 2012

Vanity Fair's annual Style Issue is my favorite!  Make sure you pick it up every September forever and ever.  The entire magazine is filled with articles about style icons, brands, and designers.  It's perfect for every fashionista out there.  xoxo.

Mila Kunis in Dior.

LOVE these Louis Vuitton ads.  Reminds me of Darjeeling Limited.

When have I not loved a look by Chloe?

Belstaff - such a regal and powerful brand.

Obsessed with these mixed prints.  Wallpaper and the MOST GORGEOUS CHAIR.

I love the Cosmopolitan ads.  They're so great.  Always.

Little article on E. Vogel shoes.  These are absolutely beautifully handcrafted shoes/boots.

44. Vogue Magazine January 2007

Now I really dislike Angelina Jolie, but Vogue put together an excellent editorial shoot with her... so I had to include it.  Still don't like her!  But you know.

Bottom right: Oscar de la Renta yellow evening gown with embroidered black & white flowers...
To die for!  I loved this resort collection!
